got a big brew day 2morrow. bottling 1 brewing 2. my buddies 1st ever brew. he is taking an irish stout kit as his starter then adding elderberries and elder flours. and wants 2 add oak essence. any one have any clue how much u would add 2 any normal beer 2 simulate oak aging?
 
You can purchase oak chips and put them in the secondary to impart flavor. I soaked mine in bourbon to sterilize them, drained them as best I could, and then dumped them in the secondary for two weeks. You get a little flavor from the bourbon as well (as though your beer was aged in a bourbon cask). Hope that's what you were looking for...
