Does anyone have any recommendations as to which books to read or any classes to attend to gain information regarding starting a small hop farm? Maybe around an acre or so? I have read the book homegrown hops and believe it is a great starting point, anyone have any other experience?

Lots of stuff out there for you. Since I have a commercial interest in this, I'll share other's first.

I hear Glen Fuller puts on a great show...Last years' was mid-july. Look up "Hopfarmer" on this forum to find him.

NEHA http://nehopalliance.org/ has workshops evey so often in the New York/New England area.

UVM is hosting their 2013 Winter Hops Conference in late February. http://www.uvm.edu/extension/cropsoil/hops

And then there are our conferences. (I'm at Gorst Valley). You would have to come to scenic Wisconsin in mid February. I promise a mind bending weekend with more information than you can ever hope to grasp. http://www.gorstvalleyhops.com/workshops.php

For books, there isn't a lot out there that has been written recently for commercial farming much less small scale. Hops Production by Rybacek (1991) is one I really like.

There was also something online from a small farm up in Vancouver. I can't find it at the moment.

Thanks Dan! Tons of info here, much appreciated. I've always wanted to head to Wisconsin :)

Haha. That kid used to be me. It's going to be tough dealing with this 70 degree weather here today, not sure what to do with myself...
