New Barley crusher question

Just received my new barley crusher with an order of supplies from AHS. What's the deal on running a half-pound of grain thru it and throwing it out? I didn't purchase any extra grains to throw away.

If you have oatmeal, corn flakes, wheaties type cereal around, just tighten up the gap some and run that through.
 
I had thought that was the purpose, cleaning.

cereal it is...thanks.
 
In the coffee industry our go to grinder cleaner is minute rice. It picks up extraneous oil perfectly and works very well as a dessicant as it goes through the mill.
