House Passes Bill For
Stronger Beer Sales

- The Alabama House has passed a bill that would allow stronger beer to be sold in Alabama.
The House voted 49-37 Tuesday to approve the bill that will allow some imported and gourmet beers with a higher alcohol content to be sold in Alabama.
Alabama law currently requires that beer sold in Alabama have an alcohol content no higher than 6 percent by volume. The bill sponsored by Rep. Thomas Jackson of Thomasville would allow beer with an alcohol content up to 13.9 percent by volume.
The bill now goes to the Senate for debate.

It is not guaranteed to pass, but it has a good shot at it!

Finally my state has made a good decision. If they could make it legal for table games in casinos I might not have to move back to Nevada haha

Not that I'm a fan of big beers, but this is good news for those who are. Some people argue against it because beer drinkers drink more by volume, but BAL doesn't know Doggie claws from Sterno.

Wow, that's a pretty crappy law! 6% is a really low maximum, you are missing out on so many good brews! I hope this passes and you can enjoy a nice RIS or IIPA in celebration.

I sure will Have a Celebration IIPA that is if i do not get around to making one myself before it pass's :p

I don't give a hoot about the zing, drink whiskey if you want ABV...let um drop the limit to 3.2% for all I care...just make all of the dry counties WET!

The problem with 3.2% is you get Bud 3.2%, Miller 3.2%, and Coors 3.2%, which are all "special renditions" wherein they add tap water until 3.2% is reached. Rarely do other distributors have the facilities to actually bother pandering to that market, and so it's like the 60s all over again, only worse (except that with some effort decent beer can be had, i.e., crossing state lines or having people do it for you).

Yeah...It passed the House last year. Now it has to pass the Senate. Last year there was a log jam due to a filibuster but it appears things are moving this session.
