is it ok to used a wooden spoon for brewing? going to brew my first ever batch this weekend and havnt found a metal spoon big enough for my 9 gallon pot which will be a full 5 gallon boil. is wood too porous?
thanks for the help......

Its fine, even a plastic spoon will work. Just clean it after every use and dont use post boil.

i should only need it during the boil right? after that its all siphons and gravity.
do i need to soak it in star san pre boil? or is the boil going to kill and potential bacteria?

For stirring your boil you can use anything that will not impart flavor to the wort (so probably rules out passedpawn's dong). I often use a large metal whisk as it is most effective for getting malt extracts dissolved in.

For a mash, you want a beachwood paddle, or failing that a large beachwood spoon.
