Now I'm only twenty six
Feeling more like forty three
My hair lines disappearing
And I never get ID'ed
My clothes are out of fashion
No I'm not cool anymore
In the bed by ten o clock each night
And up at half past four
Still I go down
To that college town
When the Bulldogs play at home
I drink keg beer from a trash can
'Till the whole damn thing is gone
Then I look at all those college girls so innocent and young
I just check them out and say "Damn
I wish I was twenty one"
21 - Corey Smith

Cromwell said:
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone.

Comfortably numb, by Pink Floyd

Hello, central... give me NO-MAN'S LAND
From a walking waste disposal unit
A transfusion from me'd kill the faint of heart

Alas POOR YORICK... I knew me well but I bin killin ma brain CELL BY CELL
It only takes a bullet to make the WOIM TOIN--an this one's for you...

...

Complainin bout ma campaign against personal decency
I got no excuses
Just rules wrapped in barbed wire, laced with busted glass
(Yeah, I'm the one who gave the sandwich to Mama Cass)

...

Chalk up another frozen pizza... choke up another thousand marlboros
Anything goes for them ordinary joes
They'll cut off your face to spite your nose
I don't need to touch their toes to know I've already reached my ALL TIME LOW
Pacin' ruts inna carpet
Eatin' up the wallpaper, crawlin' the walls, sick on the ceiling
DEAD IN THE HEAD
Shut the shutters... I shoulda stayed in bed

Their hearts pump pure, and then sweaty palms tellin' lies,
So blame it on a drug-addict, brother, and the cover-up.
One can't help become center of attention,
When everything is helpless, be realistic.
Ever since the goldfish died, daughter can't see past the make-up.
Stapling, "please become a savior to everything."
Photo album catalog, better order new hand holders,
Follow the odor to someone older and less experienced.
The whole choir is off key and forgets the words,
So act later and get a free subscription to a diary,
Not even worth reading.
There was a time like this when mother's tears turned lakes and grew tree gardens.
Now overgrown, with homemade graves,
But at least she can keep the whole family together.

~Sole's part in Testimony- Sage Francis.

A little out of the genres listed, but I can listed to that song 20 times in a row and get something different out of it each time.

No ideas original, there's nothing new under the sun.
Its never what you do but how it's done.
What you base your happiness around, material women and large paper.
That means your inferior not major.

"It's a battered old suitcase, to a hotel someplace, and a wound that will never heal."

no prima donnas. The perfume is on an old shirt that is stained with blood and whiskey

Waltzing Matilda
Tom Waits' version, of course

Nice pick, Bird!

When I woke up this morning, things were looking bad.
Seems like total silence was the only friend I had.

(my second vote...)

Sounds of laughter, shades of life
Are ringing through my opened ears
Inciting and inviting me.
Limitless undying love, which
Shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe

Long live John Lennon. That guy was the music Maharishi.

Well, the sun rose on the courtyard
And we all did hear him say
"You always was a Judas,
But I got you anyway.
You may have got your silver
But I swear upon my life
Your sister gave me diamonds
And I gave 'em to your wife."

Now that is a fine song!

Is that what you call a getaway
Tell me what you got away with
Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish,
I've seen more guts in 11 year old kids

Have another drink and drive yourself home
I hope there's ice on all the roads
And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt
And again when your head goes through the windshield

Ill post the band in an hour or so but does anybody know this one?

Actually I'm the same way now that I'm a little more grown up. I still go back fairly often though, at least to some of my favorites. Brand New by the way...

Pearl Jam:

"Ed Horne downing pictures
On the fountain pops
Where Came on top
Lemon Yellow Song
Arms raise on fee
Bo-bubbley poolar

That's right, isn't it?

Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.

Whisky bottles and brand new cars, oak tree you're in my way
There's too much coke and too much smoke, look what's going on inside you
Ooh that smell, can't you smell that smell?
Ooh that smell, the smell of death surrounds you
Lynyrd Skynyrd

He had a lot to say.
He had a lot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him.

We're going to miss him.

It's, so long.
We wish you well.
You told us how you weren't afraid to die.
Well then, so long.
Don't cry.
Or feel too down.
Not all martyrs see divinity.
But at least you tried.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud.
We'll miss him.
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart.
We'll miss him.

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.

But it was so loud.
You sure could yell.
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud.

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade cuz I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, and
Someone who would die for me.

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you ****in lie.

Don't you step out of line.
Don't you ****in lie.

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me.
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

You had a lot to say.
You had a lot of nothing to say.

Jump down.
Get off your ****in cross.
We need the ****in space to nail the next fool martyr.

To ascend you must die.
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies.
Goodbye...

Tool - Eulogy. My favorite, but several other Tool songs are right up there with it.

I don't know the reason
I stayed here all season
Nothin to show but this brand new tattoo
But it's a real beauty
A mexican cutie
How it got here I haven't a clue

Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines "

To go along with the above post:

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking.

Racing around to come up behind you again.

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

I wish there was something to do or say...to try and make me change my mind and stay. We never did too much talking anyway. But don't think twice, its alright.

Bob Dylan

Don't need a whore
I don't need no booze
Don't need a virgin priest
But I need someone I can cry to
I need someone to protect
Making love and breaking hearts
It is a game for youth
But I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend

Waiting on a Friend Rolling Stones

This was one of the first videos on MTV. Brings back the memories from the early 80's.

Mmmm thanks. In a world of idiocracy bob dylan poetry stands out.

Poetry is dead, it has been replaced by music lyrics.

I'm rarely satisfied by what I hear.

welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. were so glad you could attend come inside come inside
Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Performing on a stool, we've a sight to make you drool
Seven virgins and a mule, keep it cool, keep it cool
We'd like it to be known, the exhibits that were shown
were exclusively our own, all our own, all our own
Come and see the show!

"...Standin' on a corner in Winslow Arizona well such a fine sight to see; it's a girl my Lord in a flat-bed Ford, slowin' down to take a look at me..."
Take It Easy - The Eagles

There she is sitting there
Out behind the smoke-house in her rocking chair
She don’t say nothin’
She don’t do nothin’
She don’t feel nothin’
She don’t know nothin’
Maybe she’s crazy, I don’t know
Maybe that’s why I love her so
Her papa was a midget
Her mama was a whore
Her grandad was a newsboy ’til he was eighty-four
What a slimy old bastard he was
Man don’t you think I know she hates me
Man don’t you think I know that she’s no good
If she knew how she’d be unfaithful to me
I think she’d kill me if she could
Maybe she’s crazy I don’t know
Maybe that’s why I love her so
I’m not afraid of the Greywolf
Who stalks through our forest at dawn
As long as I have her beside me
I have the strength to carry on
Today we will be married
And all the freaks that she knows will be there
And all the people from the village will be there
To congratulate us
I will carry her across the threshold
I will make dim the light
I will attempt to spend my love within her
Though I will try with all my might
She will laugh at my mighty sword
She will laugh at my mighty sword
Why must everybody laugh at my mighty sword?
Lord, help me if you will
Maybe we’re both crazy, I don’t know
Maybe that’s why I love her so
