I just bottled my first batch.

It's the B3 Pliny. I got about 43 12 oz bottles. There was about 1.5 gallons of gunk at the bottom. My bottling bucket had 4 gallons of beer. Lesson learned next time I will make some more or is there any other way of ensuring there is not so much gunk. I will also filter out the boiled hops next time.

Anyway, I am super happy to reach this milestone and wanted to thank everyone on this board for sharing their valuable advice.

Btw: What do people usually do with the gunk, is it good fertilizer? I am not planning on using it for another batch.

Congrats! Now refrain from drinking too many of them for the first few weeks!

I normally chuck the gunk under my apple or lemon tree. Hasn't killed them yet.

If it is a Pliny clone, that beer is going to take a couple of months to get REALLY good! It is going to be very hard to resist -- just make sure you stash away some of it and try it in the fall!

Badnaam,

I was reading the posts from the bottom up.
So it is already bottled! Congrats!
Use a hop bag to keep crap out of your bottling bucket.
And give the left over crap to your horse or your hogs.
Or just throw it out the back door.
