Has anyone tried the "Hop Burst" Technique?

Yup, pretty much standard for an hoppy American ale I make. If I have enough hops, I will add them all from 30 to 0 minutes.

Only thing I would say to expect is a nice hop flavor and aroma in you final beer. Also, there will be a lot of hop matter left in the kettle, make sure you have a good way to strain them out.

It's how I do my IPA's now, almost all under 20 minutes. I think it adds to the mouthfeel a bit as well, perhaps from the increas in hop oils.

EDIT: I have actually made a version of that beer with different hops, came out amazing.

Did it with an IPA a few years ago and took first place in a local comp with it. Incredible hop aroma and flavor. :rockin:

I have been pushing the late hops up over the last few batches. It creates a big hop flavor. I have been adding gelatin to the fermenter to get the beer clear and let the hop flavor come out. I also add a bit of Koji enzyme to dry the beer out.
I make a APA that is exactly 1/2 of the malt and hops, but the same late-hop schedule. It is a great summer beer.

My DFH 60 clone uses sort of the same idea. I use 1/2 the bittering hops in the recipe at 60, then spread them out until I do the flavoring additions, from 30 minutes to end. I love the hop flavor!

Lost of hops for sure.
A local brewery gave me a pound of Simcoe under an agreement of kicking him some home brew and trying out a late-hop idea he had. He wanted to see what would happen with this schedule. I cleaned the fridge of my Sorachi Ace and used it for bittering only. The Mt Hood and Columbus are some of my favorites and make it into most of my Double IPA's.

Heh heh... I did the same recently with the Interceptor IPA I brewed up. It was like 7oz of Simcoe for a 5 gal batch all used up in the last 45 minutes. Lol... yours has a touch more tho!

you want loads of hop flavor and aroma?

I picked up some hop extract over the weekend, and holy **** this stuff is intense!

There is no way I'm spending that much on hops. Hopefully my hops plants will be making me some quantity in a few years.

I like the "Evil Twin" name! "Who wants some?"

I'm absolutely going to do this Tuesday on my American Brown. No 60 min addition at all.

1.00 oz Challenger [7.10 %] (20 min) Hops 15.4 IBU
1.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.00 %] (15 min) Hops 21.3 IBU
1.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.00 %] (1 min) Hops 1.9 IBU

This will put me at 38.5 IBUs according to Beersmith which is right on line for style.
