Hi all, my name is eliran and I live in Israel near tel-aviv, me and my friend Ariel started brewing 4 months ago (extract & specialty grain).

It is now time to grow and we are starting to set up our brewery. The place chosen is an old shed and we will be using the main room.

The focus right now is to setup all the electricity, water and sewage pipes. It's all there but not in working condition. Alongside that we are building a sink and a brew stand. The build is all done on the cheap side of things… understand that everything costs much more than in the U.S – for example a six-pack costs around 8-9.5$ for a cheap one.

the main goal – dividing the room in to two sides – the brewing side and the "pub" side.

We started working on the sink – we got this old stainless steel sink and cleaned it for 3 hours. We welded a stand for it using old metal scarp. It's going to have a shelf under the sink, wood panels on the sides and wood doors on the front.

As for installation we are thinking of this setup:
On the main line

Installing three taps:
1. A regular one for filling the pot

2. to accommodate a washer

3.3. Shower hose and a power head for cleaning the pot and other stuff

What do you think?

fallow us on facebook for more pics and stuff

please excuse my English, I got it from the equivalent of PBS in Israel

Awesome. I love setups like this. I think you guys are doing fine and I hope you share all of the home brew that you can!

Nice job fellas! Keep up the great work, you are doing great. I'm trying to build something similar here in the states. You guys finish yours and I'll finish mine. Then someday we agree to visit each others brewery and the culture of the surrounding areas for each. Keep up the great work!

Hi all the topic of this week is the walls. I've started mending the plaster walls
Bought 25KG of plaster and started fixing each wall – some pics

:D we use this wood simply because it’s the cheapest we could find – 6.25$ a crate, the next step is to put rope handles on them.

not sure if compliment or insult :D

a friend built this nice outdoor bar complete with water and electricity hookup.

The chiller we use – 10m of cooper, on the left is the first attempt… we manage to get from 100c – 25c in 15 min

Making sweet stout with: dextrose, molasses, brown sugar and blackberry in the secondary fermentation.

Building the fridge thermostat- (yet another build) – were using a utility box which is water proof but a little bit different then the stuff I saw around here – the thermostat is the same

http://www.ebay.com/itm/160809424363?var=460074411048&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

but we run it through a relay because we read that the thermostat doesn't last long when running all those amps by itself.
We installed 2 switched sockets 1 permanently on and 1 controlled by the thermostat
The blue light is going to be mounted on the front of the fridge

The specialty grains stand at BEER-D, we use grains and extract by weyermann

dude, this is badass! i love it. i had no idea brewing was legal over there. that brewshop is very cool looking as well :)

how much are normal 5 gallon batches?

First of all - thank you all for the positive feedback, we love your comments. "Hebrew" cracked us up :mug:

how much are normal 5 gallon batches?

Do you mean price wise? If so it goes a little like this – 32.5$ gets you a kit of: Pale Ale ,Belgian Triple, American Pale Ale, Red Ale, Amber Ale, Belgian Double, Porter ,Stout, Brown Ale, oatmeal stout. You get 3kg of malt extract, specialty grains. Hops. Priming sugar and caps. If you want: IPA, Belgian Triple, Doppelbock, Christmas Ale the price goes up to 45$. That’s as far as what we call "KITS". Im not sure about the price of all grain…

It's legal, until you want to start selling your beer, then you need to be certified. Distillation
Is illegal at home.

A little bit more about breweries in Israel. Recently a new shop came to life in jafo port it's named "beer market"
They sell only Israeli beer from small breweries all in all around 80 deferent beers (not deferent breweries). A six-pack will set you back 20$ which is a normal price here for boutique beer.

This is a great thread. You guys are on to something good.. BTW - If there's a suggestion box at the brew store, please tell the gal to take the 50 pound sack of grain off the top shelf, somebody's gonna get hurt :D

Carnage – we had our first and hopefully last bottle bomb. No one got hurt but glass flew everywhere.

We're guessing it was one weak bottle that started it all. We don’t suspect unfinished fermentation because we measured the beer and we made secondary fermentation.
I can't say I've ever seen anyone build beer crates with 2x6 lumber, but what the heck. Bomb-proof!

Bomb-proof indeed

Its funny. This is the first thread in awhile, that, when i see its got new posts i get excited! That bar is nuts though! Are all those taps different beers?!
Also. What type of beer do people in your country drink mostly? Im guessing ambers for some reason but maybe way off

I noticed a big rocky head on one of your other beers (in the drinking glass). I think you may be over-priming?

You know what? You tell me – all the kits we use say (and supply) 160gr of priming sugar. in other recipes we see much lower quantities… in the sweet stout we made today we added 140 gr.

Are all those taps different beers?!

YES! And it's awesome. That pic is from "the pirate"

We also have "porter & sons" with 50 drafts

and "55 drafts & more"
What type of beer do people in your country drink mostly?

Well… the equivalent of anheuser busch istempo

they maks "goldstar", a simple lager – that is the most common beer in Israel.
After that? Umm Carlsberg, Heineken, tuberg, weihenstephan, Guinness. All of the ale and others make a very small percentage.

You can use this calculator to determine your corn sugar weight, it does Metric, US and Imperial: http://www.thescrewybrewer.com/p/brewing-tools-formulas.html

I seldom go above 2.5 volumes of CO2. 2.5 volumes, for 20L of beer at 20C is 134g of corn sugar.

thank you, now we know we are over priming

some more pics

JUST for you we went back to porters & sons to take some pics, the taps are not so highlighted as in "the pirate" but trust me thers 50 of them

kriek is my favorite beer, i konw its not the manliest but i love it :mug:

New update:

We found some tiles so we covered the wall where the sink will be. It's not lined properly because the dry wall is not straight and has a curved in to it, or maybe we are just crappy handyman.

The darts finally arrived with the "I love beer" tips. A nice addition to the place.

Anything new guys?

In the brewery itself? I'm sorry to say… no… we bought all the necessary plumbing pipes for the sink but didn't get the chance to install it yet. I hope that this Saturday we will find the time

But… we have been brewing every Friday:

We brewed what we like to call "chunky monkey" banana ale –with 2.3 KG of mashed banana. In the pic we are tasting it after 3 days of fermentation

We brewed raspberry stout. And we made cream caramel ale.

We are waiting for some stuff to arrive by mail to make some cider

We have been consulting with the master brewer of the "Laughing Buddha Beer" which is a micro brewery in tel aviv and makes some of the best tasting beer in Israel. He gave us some very helpful pointers.

Awesome.
I really enjoy this thread and hearing what you guys are doing over there.

This is a great thread! Fun to see brewing in a different part of the world. Its amazing how many similarities there are. Do most of your ingredients (grain, extract, hops) all come from Europe? Any Israeli ingredients?

You know what? You got me thinking… Israel actually doesn't make anything for beer that I can think of. I think that even the big brewing companies import there material from Europe. I mean ok, hops will not grow here (though I have ordered seeds from e-bay in order to rebut this clame) but we do grow wheat, barley etc…

As far as home brewing goes – as a country of six and a half million I know of only 3 suppliers I guess that there isn’t much demand (yet!)

The pic is from the entrance to "beers" the annual beer expo in Israel
