I purchased 2 controllers off ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-Digital-Temperature-Controller-Thermostat-Aquarium_W0QQitemZ270531863176QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efcf4a288 and I had an idea to heat my HLT with a 1500w heat stick and use this as a controller after the purchase. The spec says that Relay contact capacity (Heating): 10A (max) 250 V, I figure a 110v 1500w heating element draws about 13.6 amps. Would I burn the controller or would the element just work with less efficiency? Thanks!

Duly noted.

Interface the heater out contacts to a relay with 20A rated contacts.

Head down to an electrical supply store and tell them you need a single phase contactor or relay with 20A rated contacts and a 120VAC coil voltage.

Piece of cake.

Thanks for the help Casey, I knew it was possible some way. Oh and by the way welcome to the board!
