I'm making a nut brown this weekend and wasn't sure which yeast to use. I was thinking wyeast 1028 or nottingham
 
I think you'd want a more attenuative English strain like Wyeast 1028 or WLP013. Either of those would be ideal for a nut brown ale
 
I just used wyeast British ale 1098 on a batch of English mild. It was exactly as expected, attenuation and lower fruity ester profile than some of the other English yeasts. Might be a good choice for you...
 
Notty goes great,but if you can get Yorkshire squares,I imagine that it would be great
