I'm working on my first recipe, and I am looking to get around 100 IBU's, and was wondering how much DME i should use to balance the hops (I really don't have the ability much more complex given my time and space restrictions). I want it to knock you on your ass, but I also don't want it to taste like crap, it needs a good malt backbone. If anyone has some good IIPA extract recipes w/ maybe some specialty grains, they would be much appreciated.

Here's one I made up that that turned out very well. I called it Bitter Texan due to the high amount of Amarillo hops. It was my first 5 gallon boil and was awesome. I still crack one open from time to time.

Ingredients:
------------
Amount Item Type % or IBU
7 lbs Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 78.7 %
6.4 oz Extra Light Dry Extract (3.0 SRM) Dry Extract 4.5 %
8.0 oz Aromatic Malt (26.0 SRM) Grain 5.6 %
8.0 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 5.6 %
8.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 5.6 %
0.60 oz Magnum [14.00%] (60 min) Hops 25.0 IBU
0.75 oz Centennial [10.00%] (20 min) Hops 13.5 IBU
0.25 oz Chinook [13.00%] (60 min) Hops 9.7 IBU
0.35 oz Magnum [14.00%] (20 min) Hops 8.8 IBU
0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50%] (20 min) Hops 7.7 IBU
1.00 oz Centennial [10.00%] (5 min) Hops 5.9 IBU
0.75 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50%] (5 min) Hops 3.8 IBU
1.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50%] (Dry Hop 7 days) Hops -
1.00 oz Centennial [10.00%] (Dry Hop 3 days) Hops -
1 Starter California Ale (White Labs #WLP001) Yeast-Ale

It came in around 75 IBU's, and around 7%abv. I can send you the xml file if you want.

Why don't you go for a Dog Fish 90 minute IPA Clone? The last one I did was up there for the IBU's and had a ABV of about 10%. It was awesome!!!! I'll post the recipe later tonight when I get home.

Hell ya, i appreciate it buddy. DFH 90 is one of my favorite brews. I have done a little more research and have turned a sierra nevada celebration into a double celebration with around 98 IBU's. I wouldn't call it a clone by any means, just uses the same ingredients.
