Hi every one! I'm new to the forums and somewhat new to home brewing. My friend and I have been looking up all grain recipes online.

My question is, what does it mean when they say "1#"? is it like a measuring unit? and what does it equal?

Usually I would just skip the recipe and look for another one, but I found one for an I.B.A. that says "Prepare starter and step-up at least twice or as necessary. 1.25 quarts filtered water per 1 # grain."

The total weight of grain is 12.50 lbs, and a 5 gallon batch.
