Are These Suds Soap or Starsan

I'm a little concerned about these suds when I shook up my cooling wort.

Does it look like suds from soap or Starsan? I usually get foam/bubbles when I aerate my wort. However, these are white and look like soap suds. It's possible that I didn't rinse all the soap off. Also, I know that the last block of ice that I threw in had a lot of starsan on the outside of the container..



I'm trying to figure out what to do. Even though I never tasted the foam from previous wort, this tastes pretty badly.

I would love to be convinced that it's just starsan suds.

It's just suds don't worry about it. It will all ferment out in the end. I would think that you would not have left that much soap in so we will say it has to be suds from the starsan which is normal and will not hurt anything.

Thanks. I think you're right. I've been trying to go over every cleaning step(in my head) and I'm 89% sure that I rinsed all the OxiClean off of everything. I was a little foggy while brewing last night (pain medication). I made a big mess in the kitchen. :smack:

This morning, I put some Oxiclean in my sink and made bubbles. They look a little different than the suds that were in my bucket.

I brewed a Porter.

My LHBS was out of Choc Malt. So, I had to go with Pale Choc Malt.

I misplace my ingredients list.

I think this is what it is

8lbs LME
1lbs Corn Sugar
.75lbs Pale Choc Malt
.5lbs or .75lbs Crystal 75
.25 Brown Malt
.25 Black Patent

1oz East Kent Goldings @ 60min
.5oz East Kent Goldings @ 30min

In my experience, Oxyclean doesn't really create suds. It releases oxygen bubbles for a little while and then it's pretty much just clear. I'm sure what you're seeing is Starsan foam.
