While not a direct clone, this recipe I brewed reminded me heavily of Black Top. Very, very hoppy, with just enough roast and toast character from the malt to let you know it was not a straight IPA. It is one of my favorite homebrews so far.
It is also in my dropdown.
PhelanKA7 said:No idea what they do at New Glarus but here's my personal Black IPA recipe:
Recipe: CCCA (Cascadian Dark Ale)
Brewer: PhelanKA7
Style: Specialty Beer
TYPE: All Grain
Notes:
Appearance: Deep but see-thru mahogany body. Off white head. Good lacing and a creamy head.
Aroma: Maple syrup notes along with dark fruits and alcohol. Sugared plums in brandy. Hint of pine resin.
Palate: Velvety smooth. Slightly gooey but not overly so. Creamy. Not dry.
Flavor: Sweet with a hint licorice. Floral hops up front. Finishes with black "irish" coffee and pine notes. Some alcohol.

Looks awesome. I don't do all grain. Do you think the results would be the same if I plugged it into Beersmith and converted it ?
Beer-lord said:That should work, but if not, it will be close. Beersmith has been good for my conversions.
