Looking to buy in bulk in sacramento. Just looking to buy base grains.. ie. 2 row, marris otter and/or pale malts. Not looking to purchase bulk myself but get into a group. Pm me
Thanks

I'll interested as well. Did you find a good solution or are you still looking? I'm thinking of starting all grain and I'm curious what the best way to save on grains is.

I didn't do a group buy.. but brewmeister in roseville sells bags at a very reasonable price. About 20$ cheaper than anywhere else I looked

Thanks for the tip. I'll give them a call for the price. It's a little out of my way to save 20 bucks. At more beer I can get a sack delivered for 45-55 bucks. If it's 20 bucks cheaper than that I'll be picking up a variety this weekend. :) thanks for the tip.

if they deliver for 45 then that's a good deal... but I thought that's just for the grain not delivery..

It's 11 for shipping per bag. I think the standard pale 2 row was 35 + shopping. If you're in the area they have will call. I'm going to try to get my brother to grab me a sack. It's my first all grain so I'm excited.

That's a good deal.. its 43 in roseville:. Goodluck!! Once u go all grain you will never go back!! Since your buying grains in bulk u gotta get a lb or 2 of hops, then your rolling. That's what I did and my batches are getting very cheap ecpecially since I'm reusing my yeast.

One other suggestion... There is a place called Certified Foods in Woodville, not too far from Sacramento, that sells malt by the sack. I have bought from them before, but it's a bit of a hike from the south bay.

I called these guys several months back and they said they stopped selling malted barley...it seemed like a great deal when I seen how much it goes for

We should start one.. maybe one of us can make a trip to more beer and save a lil..

I'm at least a month out on my build. But after that, I'd be down with making the drive in my little truck, even the 3/4 ton if there is that much action.

I heard somewhere that Whole Foods carries base malt. Anyone else know if that is true?

Whole foods in folsom sell beer "stuff". I called them looking for glass carboys. They have them cheap.. not sure what else they have tho.. I heard its the only whole foods around that has beer stuff

I'm closer to Roseville, think I'll give them a call. Maybe Folsom too.

I called folsom.. they said they are the only ones in the sacramento area... I think its called "the bier garten"

Not sure what they charge, but got this reply from email inquiry. Maybe time for road-trip.

"Hello Dale,

Thanks for your question. We have an entire section devoted to home brewing! We have barley malt, in whole grain and in liquid malt extract, as well as specialty grains and adjuncts. We have hops, yeast, sugar, sanitizer, tools and equipment, carboys and bottles. We are running low on a few items currently, but we will get a delivery very soon. Let me know if you have other questions. Visit our store and say hello!

When I was last there their stock wasn't that impressive, looked like 20 small bulk food style bins for grain,Extract, a super mini fridge for yeast, little star San and pbw, and most impressively a 2k ml erlenmeyer. I wouldn't think the do bulk grain.

Well at least more stores are starting to acknowledge the brew scene. I keep seeing those Brooklyn Everyday IPA kits all over the place too. Its one small step for a Brewer and one giant leap for for brewkind.

I'm planning to go to More Beer in Concord during spring break. They have some sweet prices on bulk base malts. I think last I checked their great western was $35 for 50lb sack. Hit me up if you want anything.

When is spring break?

Brewmeister in roseville and folsom has good prices on sacks.. Other sacramento shops are kinda overpriced..

That's wear I normally go but even their cheapest bag is still $10 more than More Beers prices. Its a good place to go when you run out if something but I prefer to buy in bulk.

Its a lil out of my way but I prefer that shop for sure. Especially for whole sacks.. some shops around sac charge 60's for 2 row... No way!

Im looking to buy in bulk, but This will be my first time. Let me know if you plan to make an order and drive down there.

I'm probably out this round. Rig isn't done yet and going camping this weekend so will be getting behinder on build.

I'm down for a bag of 2 row for sure and prob one of marris otter if a good deal, I've been wanting to try some recipes with this

It sure would be nice to get a homebrew community going in Sacramento.

I called morebeer in Concord and their current prices for 50 pound sacks of base malts are:

Great western 2-row: $35
Rahr 2-row: $44
American Pale 2-row: $35
Maris Otter: $62

I have an SUV that can carry four comfortably and (hopefully) 8 sacks of grain in the back. I'm planning on making the trip on 8/25. I'd like to let them know ahead of time what to set aside, so please everyone, let me know what you want.

I'm near Dixon too but work near morebeer in concord. We should figure something out.

Still planning on heading down there 8/25. PM me or post if you are interested in buying bulk grains.

Sorry for late response. I ended up going to my LHBS a few weeks ago. We should try to do this regularly.. or possibly a pallet and get a real deal!!

We should do this regularly. I don't know about a pallet though we would still have to pay for shipping unless someone has a connection with a local brewery.
