Hey all.

I have some Dogfish Head Punkin' Ale that I'd like to swap, preferably for Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin or Southern Tier Pumpking, but if you know of a really great pumpkin ale other than those, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm also open to trading for things other than pumpkin ale. Any West Coast stuff that I can't get here in PA would be great (Heretic, Surly, etc).

Finally, if you'd like, we could also swap a homebrewed pumpkin ale in the batch. I have my Moon Hill Pumpkin Ale in the bottle for just over 4 weeks at this point.

I've never done a swap, so I'll defer to any suggestions. I'm not even sure how to send the bottles or how much it costs, so again, suggestions/advice welcome.

:mug:

EDIT: I prefer posts in the thread, because my inbox fills up quick with only 5 messages allowed. If we decide to do a swap, I'll give you my e-mail address to use.

i got the last two bottle of pumpking at my store yesterday. its very good. i have had shipyard and its not for me. saranac is a good alternative inexpensive alternative for pumpkin ale. if you can get me some new belgum clutch brew i would glady trade you for the pumpking. my opinion is that it puts all other pumpkin brews to shame

I don't think I can get that around here, but I'll take a look. :mug:

No offense, but Shipyard was probably the worst of the pumpkin beers I've had this year. I should've known immediately when I discovered it was a screw-top.

Why would I be offended? I've never had it before. I watched a few reviews of pumpkin ales (one in which claimed shipyard's is better than Pumpking), so I requested them for trade.

Like I said, if anyone has better suggestions, I'm completely open. Also, if no one wants the DFH punkin' ale, I can get DFH 60 min and 90 min IPAs. I'd prefer the pumpkin swap for now though because it's what I have on hand.

Here's the review I mentioned:

You know, it's funny. I was just watching some other beer reviews and to my surprise there was another Shipyard pumpkin ale called "Pumpkin Head," which is a different one than the one I mentioned earlier (Smashed Pumpkin). And now I'm wondering which of the two you were referring to?

Pumpkinhead. I always wondered why people liked Shipyard's pumpkin beer...and I guess it's because Smashed Pumpkin is good because Pumpkinhead is not.

Yeah, the review I saw for the Pumpkinhead said it's almost more like a pumpkin *soda.* :cross: Light body, mild spice notes, etc. I think he gave it a 6 out of 10, whereas the Smashed Pumpkin (different reviewer though) gave it an "A" if I remember correctly.

I can't vouch for either, having never tasted them

Soooo.... Any takers on this trade/swap?

I tasted my Moon Hill Pumpkin Ale and posted some tasting notes, and a couple others have posted tasting notes as well, in case anyone wants to trade for a bottle of that as well: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/moon-hill-pumpkin-ale-260064/ (Tasting notes start at the end of 2nd page)

I was talking to someone from the brewery who was behind the booth at the great american beer fest. Pumpkinhead and smashed pumpkin both have the same flavor profile. Smashed Pumpkin has twice the alcohol (twice the malts). I thought it tasted perfect for a pumpkin beer. I probably tried 5 or 6 at the GABF this year, and Smashed Pumpkin was by far my favorite.

I can get the southern tier and the shipyard. Not sure that PA's distro is much different than mine. Got any rarities, or real good homebrew? Ball locks? Pornos? I'm open to almost anything
