I've got a lot of ECY in the fridge I haven't brewed with or slanted yet. I'll have to look when I get home, but I know there are at least 6 or 7 vials. Belgian white, Trappist, kolsch, single strain saison, bugfarm and flanders red are there for sure. I don't know if there are any micro-biologists in the group capable of examining the bugfarm and flanders red to see what the proportions are to try to replicate those. I do know that splitting them into multiple starters does not lead to the same results as using the whole bottle as directed.

I can slant any of the single strain yeasts if people are interested. The kolsch makes the best spotted cow clone I've had, much better that using wyeast kolsch.

Its for sure possible to determine the composition of the mixed culture but i dont think its worth it. To get it really accurate would be expensive and i can tell you already that ratio of different bugs will be different than in original package because grow rate is different and survival on slants can also play a role but it is impossible to say how different beer you get using slants, i would just go for it

I agree, probably not worth the time or expense. That being said, I missed out on the bug country release yesterday. Anyone interested in a group buy from ECY? Need to order 20 vials; I could use 5-6.

Back to the topic, I just slanted some WL Brett B. Trois yesterday.

Subbed... I'll also need to get back into washing and storing yeast. Kinda difficult when all of your brewing eqpt is at your buddy's house. Damn you SWMBO!

I must have over 30 jars of various yeasts that I have washed and saved slurry from. The slurry jars I might drain and start over. I need to take inventory and update the bank list. I may need to get another fridge just for yeast. Maybe if I got a large one I could actually bank everyone's yeast in one central repository. We'll see. Keep washing/slanting!

I have 5 standard upright fridges with freezers on top, if you're in need. PM me and we'll set something up. They are in various states of repair (some require hardcore cleaning), but all are functioning.

I'm interested but I'm running out of room. Let me think about what I can rearrange at my shop to accommodate yet another fridge. Thanks.

Does anyone want to trade yeast at the upcoming group buy? (I posted this on the Chicago Home Brewers board, but I thought I'd post here too.)

I have some Wyeast strains on slants (all standard strains, nothing from the private collection). I also picked up some slants of brewlabs yeast when I went home to England this summer (see here http://www.brewlab.co.uk/pdf/specialist_yeast.pdf). I haven't had a chance to use any of them yet, but I have Thames Valley 2, Sommerset 1, Borders 1, Devon 1, and East Midlands 1. No idea if they overlap with Wyeast or White labs strains. I also have a few slants I made of the C3 brettanomyces that BK Yeast isolated from Cantillon Iris (http://bkyeast.wordpress.com/2012/04/08 ... isolation/).

I can make up new slants for trade quite easily (no guarantees about my technique, I learnt from HBT threads and it's worked fine so far); I could also go through the first few stages of propagation and bring enough to make a starter with, but only with one or maybe two strains.

One problem I had on a previous buy was timing the swaps at pick up. I'll probably be relying on a friend to drive me out to Bill's place, and I don't know when he'll be able to do it, or if he'll be able to hang around for a while. I could also possibly meet up with people in the loop (or in Hyde Park if you ever find yourself down here).

Cadwallion, a fellow CHBG member, has come up with a great new site for cataloging yeast in the bank. Please check it out. At The current moment we are only accepting samples from people who live in the Chicago area. But we are hoping to open this up to anyone in the US. More details to come later.
