There are a a few threads about this on the forum, and some recommend either buying a special, open wrench to loosen the nut or making your own with a 1" or 1 1/16" socket wrench and a dremel metal cutting tool.
In lieu of spending money on a special wrench or having to take the time to make one, my HBSS guy recommended drilling a small hole into the nut and then placing a phillips head screw driver or other rigid rod into the hole and angled towards the direction that you want to loosen the nut. Tap the rod gently with a hammer and there should be enough mechanical advantage to loosen the nut to the point where you can just apply finger pressure to take it off.
It's not a perfect solution as you are left with a small hole in the nut, but no one will see it inside the tower, and you can always just spend a small amount of money to replace the nut if it bothers you, lol.
