After seeing the other posts about it and pricing my own (no lower than $75) I thought I'd build my own too.

Parts list:

Waterproof box from Walmart $12
12v Cooling fan from PC power supply $0
Power switch from PC power supply $0
Potentiometer from an old CB $0
4 Bolts and nuts $0
4 Neoprene washers $1.52
Magnet from an old hard drive $0
AC adapter (12v output) $0

Total $13.52
Beats the heck out of $75 to $90! All I need now is a stir bar.

Here are the results:

Had to use the multi-colored ties, it's in a clear box!

Very nice! My experience was that 3 of those HD magnets, stacked, worked much better than 1.

Yeah I was a little worried about that. I did tests with a metal peg from a cheap shelf I had laying around. It worked ok so I thought that an actual stir magnet would work better. We'll see when I get one. I might have to add a mag or two but if so it will be very easy. I left the bolts long in case I need to move the fan down to make room for more.

The stir bar works sooooo much better than just a piece of metal you may have lying around.

Very slick design. 15 bucks or so for what we are using it for is way better than spending 100 on the professional version.
