So, I am taking a stab at making my own recipe for the first time, and am looking for some input:

Apocalyptic Stout (being brewed on 12/21), 5 gallon batch:
Grains:
8 lbs 5.0 oz Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM)
1 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (60.0 SRM)
1 lbs Oats, Flaked (1.0 SRM)
1 lbs Pale Malt (6 Row) US (2.0 SRM)
1 lbs Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM)
8.0 oz Carafa II (412.0 SRM)

Boil:
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min 15.2 IBUs
1.00 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] - Boil 40.0 min 13.4 IBUs
1 whole Fresh Nutmeg, crushed, Boil 15 min.

Yeast:
1.0 pkg English Ale (White Labs #WLP002)

Primary Fermentation: 1-2 weeks, 68F
Secondary: 3 weeks (Cut 2 vanilla beans lengthwise, chop into pieces, cover with vodka for 24 hours, add to secondary with 2 weeks left)

Keg and force carbonate.

Stats:
Est. OG: 1.059
28.6 IBUs
Color: 36.7 SRM
ABV: 5.6%

I welcome any and all thoughts!

FWIW.. I'm a newb here but think your base recipe looks good.
A whole nutmeg might be a bit much... a little goes a long way. Maybe keep it in a separate hop sack so it can be pulled before the vanilla bean. Try it every couple days till you get the intensity.
