Bought a bottle of mead with my friend the other day and loved it. Im hoping to make one myself but i was wondering:
Where do i get that much honey from? and do you have to use fruit in mead?
thanks :)

Bulk honey: "natural" food stores, wholesalers, bee keepers.

Many people start with small batches, 4-5 liters. Most meads do not use fruit. Melomel is a mead brewed with fruit. If the fruit is apples (or pears), however, then it is a Cyser.

I use 7 lbs (about 3/4 gal) to an entire gal for a 5 gal batch. Others want a higher alcoholic brew and use 2 gals.

That's a waste to me. I'd rather brew something many people will like versus myself and 3 others.:D

I pay $18.00 for 1 gallon (12 lbs).

My husband and I have picked up clover honey in large quantities at Costco for decent prices. He has also made a maple mead to die for. He just added a half gallon of pure maple syrup on top of his normal batch of mead in the primary ferment. You can also get that at Costco.
