Trying to develop my own recipe for an IPA and unsure how to figure the amount of hops I should be using. I'm currently using BrewPal and am having trouble figuring what their balance value means.

Thanks

not familiar with the software but perhaps this? For an IPA you want to be in the extra hoppy range

Nice chart! I was thinking of a 1.060 OG with ~70 IBUs.......too hoppy?

That chart is great but it tends to be a little conservative with the extra hoppy area.

When I first started making my own recipes I always plotted the brews on that chart and often they fell off the extra hoppy range.

You should be fine with 1.060 and 70IBUs

Thanks. I thought it might be OK. DFH 60 is good but I was going to try for a little more hops. I guess one could shift the chart to the right for us hop heads!
