My recipe calls for both, American, but my hbs only has breiss... What's the difference?

Briess is located in Wisconsin. Their malt is American.

2 row and 6 row are rather similar but have some slight differences. 6 row tastes a little grainier, has more husk and more enzymatic "power". For the latter 2 reasons, it plays well with adjuncts (corn, rice) common in some styles of American brewing.
