I've been doing some research into unmalted dehusked pearled barley as a brewing adjunct. I'm trying to pull together a leftover ingredient IPA and I'm a pound short of Marris Otter of my target 11lb base malt. If I could cheat and enhance body to balance hops with pearled barley adjunct that would be great.

I found a Papazian reference to pearled barley as a adjunct in his first book, using fine crushed pearled barley boiled for 20-30min (as cereal mash) and adding this porridge to main mash after gel is complete. He states pearled barley will aid in head retention and body. Only draw back can be chill haze. But at less than 5% (1/2lb in a 11lb grain bill) I don't think this will be an issue. any thoughts?

Grain bill
10lb marris otter
.5 60lvb crystal
.5 victory malt
.5 pearled barley (cereal mash)

.5 boadicea 60 min
.5 challenger 60min
.5 fuggles 30min
.25 boadicea 20 min
.25 challenger 20min
.5 fuggles 15min
1oz fuggles FO

Has anyone used pearled barley/cereal mash as an adjunct? How did it turn out? Will I get similar gravity points as using flaked barley? Thanks in advance.:mug:
