I'm doing the Jolly Pumpkin Bam Biere clone, and it calls for medium toast oak cubes. I was only able to find heavy toast.. wondering how I can mute the oak, as it's only a subtle contribution to the beer.

I'm planning on boiling for a minute in the microwave, and pouring off the water. Is there any other way to tame the oak?

Heavy toast don't necessarily have more flavor than a lighter toast, it is just a different flavor. Since it is such a small amount it won't make a huge difference, but boiling the oak for a few minutes will certainly soften the character.
