Well, I remember there being an article in BYO about it but I can't find it now.

maybe you could get a local maltster to malt it for you, for a small fee
I know people who've done some specialty malts soaking the grain in baking pans and drying in their clothes dryer (sewn up in a pillow case), but 1500 lbs seems a little much for that.
