Ive read on here that most everyone prefers to mount the inlet side down, now maybe physics wasnt my best subject but wouldnt the gravity fill the pump head easier if the inlet was up? can someone please explain this to me before I mount it?
 
I think that the reason is you want to flood the pump housing completely with liquid which means getting any air trapped inside out. Air, being less dense than water (or wort), will tend to rise to the highest point so orienting the pump outlet at the top and supplying the liquid from the bottom facilitates this most readily.
