I'm gonna start cold crashing an IPA in my fridge tomorrow and don't have any vodka on hand. Would rye whiskey be ok? If I do get suckback, that small of an amount wouldnt affect the flavor of the beer would it?

whiskey, vodka, rye, sourmash, gin, vermouth... no more than 1/2 oz should go back in, so no difference. you're just looking for somethng 20+% abv

Just keep a bunch of 'S' shaped airlocks on hand, and you won't have to worry about this kind of thing. Three piece airlocks suck (immho).

I ran out of vodka once when making my whiskely ale,& used a little Beam's Black. Worked out fine. But being as how it had bourbon soaked oak chips in it....;)
