I planted 2 cascade rhizomes this year. The cones are turning yellowish and papery, and look like they should be picked but they don't have any smell. Is this common with first year hops, and can i use them?
thanks

Pick them, dry them and bag them. Hops just hanging in the breeze may not smell like much.

I have a similar question about my first year Willamette Hops. I think they may have been on the bine a bit too long, since they were already a bit dry when I picked them (compared to my Zeus.) They feel dry enough to bag and freeze, but they have a grassy aroma that is not that similar to the store bought Willamette hops I have bought. They didn't have much aroma on the bine either. I don't know if I want that to be the flavor/aroma of my beer.

Am I just being paranoid or did I pick them too late?
