I used White Labs London Ale liquid yeast. I let it sit out in room temperature for a couple hours while I brewed and then pitched it in right from the vial.
 
What's in the recipe?

Lots of stuff!

3/4 lb. dark crystal (steeping @155 for 20 min)
1/3 lb. roasted barley (steeping @155 for 20 min)
1/3 lb. black patent (steeping @155 for 20 min)
3.3 lbs. dark Liquid Malt Extract (60 min)
4 lbs. extra dark Dry Malt Extract (60 min)
1 oz UK Phoenix hop pellets (AA 10%) 60 min - bittering
1 oz UK Challenger hop pellets (AA 7%) 15 min - flavoring
1 oz UK Fuggle hop pellets (AA 4%) 5 min - aroma
1 whirlfloc tablet (15 min)
5 oz. Black Treacle (5 min)
1 cup organic brown sugar (60 min)
1/2 tsp vanilla (5 min)
1/4-1/2 oz whole cloves (3 min)
4-5 pieces candied ginger (3 min)
1/4-1/2 oz allspice berries (3 min)
4 cinnamon sticks (3 min)
4 tsp gypsum (60 min)
