So I was looking through the recipes section for a good Stout extract and found this: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f68/boondock-irish-stout-96675/

I backed way down on the roasted barley and added some Chocolate and an extra lb of dme. I'm curious what everyone thinks.

7.00 lb Light Dry Extract (8.0 SRM) Dry Extract 76.92 %
1.00 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 10.99 %
8 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM) Grain 5.49 %
5 oz Barley, Flaked (1.7 SRM) Grain 3.30 %
(Beersmith didn't like this in an extract recipe and the LHBS said it wouldn't grind well so I put it through the food processor briefly before steeping)
6 oz Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) Grain 3.30 %
0.50 oz Cluster [7.00 %] (60 min) Hops 11.0 IBU
0.50 oz Chinook [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 20.4 IBU
1.00 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00 %] (20 min) Hops 9.5 IBU
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
1 Pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04) Yeast-Ale

The bittering hops choices are kind of weird I guess but I just needed the bittering and had these in the freezer. My OG was 1.070, Beersmith est 1.063. Just put the carboy in the closet so I'll find out in a few weeks.

So what do you think?

It looks OK. The amount of roasted in your version @ 11% is just about right. I would ditch the crystal malt. Dry stouts don't have any crystal character to speak of. The flaked barley won't do any harm but all you are going to do by steeping it is get it wet and sticky. The bittering hops should be fine as these are not a picky item in a stout. :mug:

So here are two Stouts that I just thought up not tested at all.
