Hey guys, I'm a beer homebrewer.. and I have a friend who wants to get into cider making.. I was wondering if there were any websites out there that could help him get started. He has his own orchard, and is really interested in this.

Thanks!

Hello :mug:

I've been making cider for a couple of years.
I've made the following recipe (with my own variations)
and I like it: http://www.leeners.com/cider.html

Also, this site I found informative:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/scrumpy/cider/cider.htm

I've never pressed my own apples, but since he has his own
orchard I think he'd want to invest in a very good press.
I think that would be the most labor intensive part of the operation.
I've got a press that looks similar to this: http://www.homeciderpress.com/
but I use that for grapes ... never tried it with apples.

If he is already making apple juice for sale, making hard cider for himself is nothing. If he isn't, the question is how much cider? If he wants to go pro, the equipment, process and legal angles change.
