Hop ball question

The strainer I used on my kettle spigot didn't do much to keep the hop debris out of the way so I was considering a hop ball (or two) and had a question. Do you experience reduced alpha acid extraction if the hops are confined in a ball (or a bag) instead of free floating? I think I read somewhere that the extraction rate can be dependent on the hop mass to water volume ratio. It seems like a hop ball would increase that ratio compared to free floating hops. What do you guys think? I'm not making hop bombs, usually the opposite actually.

I use a large hop bag, suspended from a hop spider I put together and don't notice any difference.
