Well, I haven't experienced it yet, but I thought it would be fun to have a thread to post pictures of fermentation disasters. Let the games begin! :ban:

I don't think you're going to get many takers...usually when someone posts a brewing disaster thread and we ask, the answer is usually something akin to "we were too "#@$%#@# busy cleaning up the mess to take pictures."

So I'm thinking as cool as it would be....maybe not so much activity on this thread...

But if you look hard enough, you may be able to find the bouncing better bottle video...that's almost brewing accident porn.

+1, These threads have been attempted before, but think about it. If this happened to you, Do you think SWMBO would honestly let you run, and grab a camera before cleaning it up, allowing it to soak further into her precious carpet! Especially thanks to our good friend Murphy, these usually happen best with Porters and Stouts in your white carpeted Room.

Exactly. I came home last night after a weekend away, found crap all over my bucket and a plugged airlock...it was past midnight, and I was too tired to do anything but clean, sanitize, and put everything back together...if it happens again, I'll snap a shot.

In the meantime...anyone have a tip for cleaning gunk out of a three-piece fermentation lock?

Give it a good long soak in Oxyclean and hot water. That gunk doesn't stand a chance.:rockin:

Don't be discouraged! Here's mine :)

Not beer, but worse. Blueberry wine. And yes, it was a year ago, and yes, the stains are still there...under the shelves too. What could possibly be worse? I made the same wine again this year...and guess what? Almost exactly the same blast pattern on the door. I never learn.

second floor in my garage Saison at around 78* with a huge starter.... I did have the forethought to put the BB in a container . You can see some splatters on teh back of the 27 inch TV. What you don't see is the huge splatter that was on top of the TV I think the airlock did a ricochet off the ceiling and hit the TV never to be seen again. Glad this wasn't in the house.

I also fit into the same group of get this cleaned up before the wife sees it. I had one batch blow the top off the carboy in the bedroom closet and got krausen all over the SWMBO shirts. This is not a good idea!!!! I don't ferment in our closet anymore.

I invited my father-in-law over for a brew day when the women were gone for the weekend. We brewed two batches of beer and got way to drunk. We placed the carboys on the island in the kitchen. When I woke up one of the carboy caps had blown off. It blew krausen about 5 feet up on to the vaulted ceilings. Well when the SWMBO got home she asked why I had re-painted the ceiling over the island.

awsome! I've never had a problem with wine before but is it possible to put blow-off hoses on a one gallon jug like this?

Sure, I just neglected to do so :) I left way too much of the blueberry bits in there anyway, but it's surprising how only a little bit can clog up that airlock hole. I learned my lesson...I'm only using a handfull of blueberry skins from now on, the rest is strained juice. It was an expencive lesson though...pretty sure the deposit is gone on my apartment. (not a big deal though, the dog ate a hole in the carpet anyway...)

i had a coffee stout blow up the wall of the master bathroom when it shot its lid half off. luckily it blew toward the wall rather than away into the room! as it was, wife was not impressed.

"Sigh".

Cherry Wine.

Still, I can only shake my head and laugh. I had pitched the yeast the night before and there was zero signs of fermentation as of 9 am the next morning. This is what happens when you come back 13 hours later. Even on the bottom shelf, this eruption managed to mark all four walls and the ceiling.

The gutteral burping volcano coming out of the carboy was both disgusting and mesmerizing...
