Are 15 gallon keggles too large to realistically run 5 gallon batches?

Nope I recently picked one up and love it for brewing, never fear the boil over again.

Nope. I do 5-gallon batches of my bigger beers (RIS, IIPA) and use my keggle. But you can still have a boil over.

Joker,

What kind of chiller are you using?? Can an immersiion get in there under enough wort to be effective or are you using a counterflow?

Let's just say my 888-RIS was supposed to yield more than 4 gallons.

I just use an immersion chiller, I think it works well. Probably more efficient ways out there though, there always seems to be.
