I'm recreating a historic recipe and it calls for "two handfuls of ground malt". I'm thinking that's about 1/3 of a pound of crushed 2row. What do you think?

Any one willing to weigh two handfuls of crushed grain for me?

It could be asking for actual ground grains, but I'm thinking crushed is a better interpretation of it.

Uh, why not mill some grain and do some testing? Then take your average.

Does it give any sort of indication how strong the final beer is, or how sweet, etc?

It's for a sweet metheglin.
A sweet, herbed, short mead.

I don't have a mill, that's why I'm asking here. Without a better answer I'm going to use my guesstimate.

A possibly better question for those of you who do mill your own malt.

How much does the volume of grain increase after it is milled?
