Hello all,

I'm about to do my first batch of home brew. I bought two plastic fermenting buckets at my LHBS and the insides smell like new plastic. I was wondering if I had to break them in before I put a beer in there to get rid of the plastic smell or just toss the beer in thanks.

Always a good idea to give them a good clean and then sanitize before using.

Personally, I'd fill them to the top with really hot tap water, add a scoop of oxyclean, soak for a decent amount of time, then give them a thorough rinsing with hot water and finally a good spraying of starsan.

Thanks I've got them filled with hot water and pbw now going to leave it like that over night

Use hot water when you rinse. Reading the back of the PBW jar,it mentions this. I por the gallon of starsan in it,then swish around & drain through the spigot to sanitize that too. I have spigots on FV's & bottling bucket. Makes life easier than auto siphons.
