OK so im getting together a parts list and pricing for outfitting my kegs. This will be a single tier build, herms build. Right now im just working on the fittings for the kegs. Here is my list so far:

(HLT, Mashtun) Sight glass with thermometer - http://www.brewhardware.com/index.p...rmometer-4ezst-240&catid=36:weldess&Itemid=60 x2 - $45 each

(Brew Kettle) Sight glass no thermometer - http://brewhardware.com/index.php?o...ss-sight-glass-kit&catid=36:weldess&Itemid=60 x1 - $27

(HLT, Brew Kettle) 2 x Bulk head with 3 piece ball, standard NPT, 1/2 to 1/2 nipple - http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=46&product_id=167 $37 each

(Brew Kettle) whirlpool side pickup - http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=46&product_id=151 - $22.75

(HLT) center pickup - http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=46&product_id=94 - $32

(Mash Tun) false bottom with center pickup - http://www.norcalbrewingsolutions.com/store/product181.html - $87

Im not sure what i need for the heat exchanger. i know ill need another ball valve, the copper for the heat exchanger (what size tubing?), another unknown fitting at the top and another ball valve for the output.

For the mashtun, with a herms setup should i batch sparge or fly sparge? I don't really know anything about fly sparging. opinions? equipment needed?

anything im missing? any insight would be great!

no thermo on your brew kettle?

would be nice to know when your down to pitching temps

For a mash tun keg, get the 15" false bottom (hinged, with handle and hole drilled) so that you won't need to worry about grain getting under it. That's what I have in my mash keggle (from NorCal/Jaybird too)...

I'm setting up my boil kettle without a bulkhead, just the ball valve and 1/2" NPT to 1/2" compression fitting which gets the dip tube locked in place (reaching to the center of the keggle).

I would also go with QD's wherever possible. That includes anywhere wort will flow. I do like having QD's so that I can use the same hoses (1/2" ID silicone) for both the mash and then chilling the brew after the boil (and running into fermenter).

Will be using the keggle for the first time this weekend. Not really concerned about the hot/cold break, since that can do a brew really good. As for trub, as in hop matter, I use a spider, so it's not really an issue. I get all of a cup, or maybe a pint, from the 10 gallon Blichmann I've been using. Since this coming batch will have a pre-boil volume of about 10 gallons, I needed to get the keggle setup before this coming weekend. Also, the pickup tube is about 1/2" off of the bottom in the middle of the keggle. If I need to, or decide to, I have other dip tubes that I can set to use. I might, just to see, or maybe I'll just use this one for the first time and then decide. Still up in the air right now.

BTW, the sight glass/tube you see on the keggle is one of my own creation. Uses borosilicate glass and (as you can see) can recirculate back into the keggle. It's really secure to the side, and I don't need to worry (at all) about it spewing boiling hot wort out of the top (a concern I have with the tubes that have an open top). I have the stainless tubing cut to make a shield, that I plan to get machined with a groove to both protect the glass from impacts, and provide a way to check the wort level. I might use a tool to make grooves in the tube to mark the levels (not cut into it, more of indentations). I hope that I can get the sight groove cut when I go to the machine shop on Wednesday (after work)...
Also, the barb fitting you see inside the keggle is for recirculating the wort while [first] sanitizing the plate chiller, and then later as I start chilling the wort. I might change that to a 90 degree elbow and use a small section of silicone tubing, like I have in the mash tun.

Really like your setup! do you have any info on the placement of the the holes for each and a parts list?

just wanted to say thanks for the replies and ideas! ive been out of the brewing loop recently with a job change, new baby, and moving to a new city. Im starting to move forward with this project again. I already received the 10 inch false bottom, hopefully i can still exchange it for a 15 inch! I do like your setup golddiggie and will probably have a few questions for you in the near future.
