BG-14 confusion

Okay so I puchased (2) BG-14's for a brewstand I am building and right now I just need to hook them up to a bbq tank to I can make em run.

I have been reading all sorts of stuff about different valves, orfices, regulators, hoses...

Can someone please just tell me what I need to make this work properly...

I got the burners for Agrisupply if that makes a difference...

Here's what I use for my burners... there's a lot of other ways this can be done, this is just one.

Pilot
Valve
Thermocouple

I used these only on the burners I wanted to be automated. You'll also need a low pressure conversion kit, but it should come with the valves (mine did). Get yourself a LP propane kit for your tank, and then you'll need to either bore out the holes on your burners, or buy a plug that's used for low pressure (I believe Agri's burners are high pressure).

I can't remember where I bought my low pressure orrifice for the burners, but it came with a shutoff valve built in so I could adjust my flame.

Hopefully this helps, I'm sure if I got something wrong or missed anything, someone will come to the rescue.

Thanks for the reply but you are well ahead of me I don't need to automate anything I am more then happy to fire em up with a bic...

I should mention I have a pair of bg-10's already but the regulators and orfices don't fit...

Suthrncomfrt1884's method will only work with NG, those valves are rated for .5 PSI.


i found the easiest (cheapest) method of hooking these up to some iron pipe or a gas manifold is to have some custom hoses made. you should be able to google a hose shop in your area and see if they can go from the 3/8 compression to whatever you needed.

I appreciate the feedback but man you guys really like to complicate things.. I think you missed where I said I am just looking to connect them to a bbq tank to make them run.

These valves work just fine with LP. They come with a LP conversion kit, and as long as you're running low pressure (need the right regulator) then you'll be fine. I've been using them with a propane tank for awhile now.

When I get off work today, I'll try to find the part number of the pipe fittings I used to convert the orafice on the BG-14's to one that will fit a LP regulator. That's all you need if you're not automating. You'll need some shutoff valves at each burner, but I'm sure you know that.

BG-14 burners out of the box with a 0-30 psi regulator. Fire it up, adjust the air inlet on the burner and the pressure until you get a clean blue flame. Use a standard gas ball valve with a 3/8" 45 degree flare end and get hose like MooMoo said.

i think i know what you are asking, im in the process of hooking up BG-14's. in order from tank to burner it would go (and correct me if im wrong i still dont have mine set up.

bbq tank
tank adaptor (internal thread is call POV, external is Acme)
Regulator (for the bg-14 im going with an adjustable 1-30 psi Regulator)
high pressure hose
oriface
air shutter
burner

i have seen set-ups with a valve between the hose and the oriface to shut off flow.

JBLIZZ, for the most part, burners are configured for a "one burner per tank" type of setup.

You will need to build a gas manifold to distribute gas to both burners if you don't want to use two tanks and two regulators, either out of iron pipe, or do it brutus 10 style and weld your own.

Thanks guys I picked up a 0-40 regulator on Amazon and should have it tomorrow. The Burners came with a HP orfice so I am pretty sure I should be set to test run it. I appreciate the extra info as I am sure I will be looking to run both burners at the same time very soon...

I bought the same burners. The spring for the shutter disk is useless. get a spring washer, works a hell of a lot better.
