So, I know the motto, relax, sit back and have a home brew. However, I took the yeast from a bottle of Franzkaner Weisen and added it to 1 L of wort to grow some yeast to pitch. Everything went as usual, and after primary fermentation left off, it started to clear. However, then bubbles started to build up on the surface, and now it looks like 2 inches of what would best be described as spit. It's been there for a week and a half.

I gave it a taste and it tastes like very sweet Hefewiezen. However, the odor is like gym socks. Anyone had anything like this before?

I get that whenever I brew a wheat beer, it's called German hops :p

However it could very well be the yeast too. I've been doing some experiments with different yeasts and some (like forbidden fruit) give off some seriously funky smells.
