I have been searching for a successful American brown ale recipe...

I have have searched and found a few, but I was wondering if there is a consensus as to a couple recipes that were "must brews"....

Thanks in advance

Have you checked out Janet's Brown Ale? Internet-famous recipe and delicious. It's very hoppy--almost an IPA--but just a fantastic beer.

I have definitely seen that one! It seems like I always brew hop monsters so I was trying to stay away from an ipa.

JBA is a real winner. It is hoppy for sure but not at all like an IPA for me. I'm biased because in general I find your average Brown to be boring.

The Can You Brew It Moose Drool clone recipe in the Recipes database is also a great option. Not too hoppy, and a really nice beer.

I agree with that choice. Very nice brew. That reminds me I do still have some from a batch I brewd a couple of months ago down in my basement. I am going right down to grab some and put them in the fridge.

I brew a version with the same grain bill, but I dialed the hops back to give me about 44 IBU as opposed to the 60 plus IBU in the original recipe. It's a great Brown no matter how you brew it.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I think I'm going to do Janet's but dial back the ibu's a touch.

Cheers!
