Needed 1 o-ring, so naturally they only came in a pack of 25. Message me and I'll mail you one for a buck. This is the part info.

Silicone high temperature o-ring (McMaster-Carr part number: 9396K38)
(1-3/16" ID x 1-7/16" OD x 1/8" width, AS568A Dash No. 217, Durometer hardness A70, FDA compliant, -65F to +450F)
 
These are for water tight, weldless installation of heater elements for electric brew kettles, HLTs, etc. I just did mine last night and it works great. I don't know what you mean by selfless.
