I agree with the idea to take her to a place that sells beer and let her taste and tell you what she likes. Here we have a place that sells over 200 beers. I am certain she could find one or two that she likes. Then find a recipe that comes very close. Letting her choose makes her a part of the fun.

I love these posts. Makes me realize how awesome I have it. If I ever felt the need to call my wife by that acronym, she'd get the prefix ex- instead!
 
Share it with others that like it but don't worrry about those that don't. Buy you wife a six of Segrams Wine Coolers.
 
I developed my strawberry blonde recipe (see my recipes drop down) to appease my wife. It really helped because even though she doesn't drink much beer she tolerates a LOT of beer related nerdery due to that one beer being around.

My wife hates beer and the smell after a session but she likes that I have a hobby that entertains me. Maybe start making wine on the side?
 
How about a saison? Or if she's REALLY patient - a lambic. My wife is NUTS about lambics :D

I, and I think many others here, just use the term as a known term for "wife" in a joking manner. We don't literally have to obey our wives. We're not 5 years old and they're not our mothers. :mug:

OP - Good luck in your search. I agree with taking the wife to a brew pub or 12 and ordering the tasting flights. If she doesn't find anything she likes, then just keep brewing what you like knowing you tried. Not everyone is going to like beer. She should, however, at least respect the fact that you do and support you in your hobbies and interests. She's your wife.
 
Try a Texas Blonde LME and throw in an ounce of lemon grass the last 5 minutes. Its like a stepped up corona, not to hoppy and medium body. My mom likes it, but she also swears by Arbor Mist:confused:
 
My wife:

1) now has big boobs...bought 'em when they cut the others off
2) now really likes BIG BEERS....always liked beer (that's how wegot together for Friday night drinking beer in college)
3) enjoys the brewing process but won't spend that much time....so I got her into wine making
4) is and knows what SWMBO is...and thinks it's hysterical
5) does get her own brew...with her own labels she designs

Find one she likes...I agree about taking her for a tasting or better yet, buy a bunch of kinds, make a lot of different small food portions like tapas, and have a great evening.......you may need that viagra.

it's worked for 30 years for me!
 
Let me add this... if you absolutely cannot find an offering in the homebrew department to please her, and buying her a bottle of wine or whatever her preference every time you brew doesn't work... try this (and maybe you already do this, I don't know).... Clean the kitchen. When you are done brewing, leave a nice, shiny clean kitchen, with a nice clean, not sticky floor.

The clean kitchen is the only thing my wife loved when I started brewing! She still hates the smell.
 
I think you should brew her up a cup of "shut the hell up." Tell her you don't like her periods so she is going to have to stop those too. And if she doesn't like any of that, ask her "How about I try a Strawberry Blonde?" and when she says "What does that taste like?" tell her, "I don't know yet- I haven't met her.":rockin:
 
My wife let's me know she's proud of my ability to clean up after a brew and that makes her happy knowing I respect her OCD.

But brewing something she likes takes the cake, thus the kegs of Kate the Great and Curieux clones!

Keep at it, do it together, and keep it clean. Also, try to brew when she's out. If she comes home to a spotless house with a well placed carboy, shell appreciate it and perhaps see it as less a "bad" hobby.

She will come around 99% of the time. Make sure you stay interested in her hobbies and interests too, and she will want to follow your example.
 
It's times like this I realize how good I have it. My wife was actually the one who turned me on to IPA. She's the one who finds out what breweries have tours and tasting rooms in every city we visit, and she loves a house full of homebrew as much as I do.

But for the OP, the best thing to do would really be to find out what she'd be interested in you making for her. Maybe she'd like beer if she tried something like Framboise, or a witbier. Or maybe not, but she'd like a cider ... that's as easy as pitching yeast into a jug of apple juice. If she likes wine, get a wine kit and make that, maybe get her to make it with you. Or try mead, which you can make "white" (with just honey and/or spices) or "red" (with honey and dark fruit).

If you don't like the same thing she likes, make smaller batches for her. She'll appreciate it.

And if all else fails, do what previous posters have suggested: brew when she's out, clean the kitchen afterwards and keep your fermenters downwind.
 
I think we need to know why your wife is ready to shut down your home brewing hobby as I find it hard to believe that the sole factor is that she doesn't like what you've brewed so far. My guess is that your homebrewing hobby is inconveniencing her in one or more of the following ways:
-You make a mess and don't clean it up
-It takes up too much space
-You spend too much money on it
-You spend too much time on it and not enough with her
-She doesn't like the smell

If she isn't happy about the hobby to begin with, not liking the beer produced just adds to the annoyance. Making a beer that she likes might appease her temporarily, but she will still be annoyed if what she dislikes about the hobby isn't addressed. Plus, there's always the chance that you never make a beer that she likes or it may not be enough to make her overlook what she dislikes about the hobby. So go talk to you wife and find out why she doesn't like the hobby and come back here for us to suggest ways to fix that.

Agree. There has to be a reason. Surely you didn't just marry a woman that hates when your happy with no affect on her either way.
 
My wife rarely drinks and doesn't care much for beer when she does, but even she likes my Kolsch. It's one of the few beers that she'll even taste if I offer her some.
 
My wife steals my beers after I pour them. She likes the hoppy ones the best. She even takes bottles to her friends which I always ***** about but hey as long as she has some interest in it there won't be a fight when getting ingredients. She also has put in a request for cider and mead and well thats no problem really.

LOL. Really, she should be happy you have a nice domesticated "around the house hobby".

I take off one week every month and go backpacking without mine. :p

I'm beowulf's wife and i just wanna say, while i was always delighted that my husband had found such a fun hobby i wasn't much of beer drinker...at first...now i utterly adore home brew...even the hoppy ones and i was definitely not a hop head before. i liked lambics, ciders and mead but beer wasn't my pal and ipa and i hated each other. i love it all now...like the other poster said "patience grasshopper" it pays off! Let her try them all...we got some of those cute little taster glasses and made an occasion of it. i once said "i don't like beer" that's like saying "i don't like food" there are so many variations, so many nuances. Share your adventure and i'll bet she comes around:)
 
I think it's fair to say there is no 1 beer that all non-beer loving women will like. My wife for instance was turned on to good beer with porters, stouts and brown ales. She like malt forward beers. She doesn't like blondes, pales, hefes, kolsches, lambics or anything hoppy. So to say a kolsch or a blonde or any other one beer is guaranteed to be loved by any woman is a blanket statement that doesn't really have any merit other than it being a beer that all people might find to be tasty.

You need ot find out what beer your wife likes and go for that, of course after you've determined why she doesn't like that you brew in the first place.
 
First off, who lit the fuse on her tampon!

my husband has gotten me into brewing, but i was never against it to begin with, he puts up with all my craft and candle making s*** all over the house, the least i can do is give him a few hours in the kitchen to make his brew and I get clean dishes out of the deal, F*** yeah!!!

Tell her she needs to put her big girl panties on and deal with it. you partners, she not you mom(unless your into that, Im not judging).

my husband got my attention with a store bought, buffalo bills orange cream ale(yum!!), and now I am hooked
 
I feel very fortunate... my wife hates beer, but supports my brewing and is encouraging my upgrade to 10 gallons and my brew room build...but she is a real keeper...

I didn't read all the posts...but I think the Thread needs to be titled... "My soon to be ex-wife is about to stop my brewing".....I'm just sayin..
