Hey all,

A buddy and I are still beginners. Our first three batches have all been pretty promising but this fourth one we hit a snag.

We pulled recipe off this site ASAMOF that was a pub ale that is supposed to to be in the Boddingtons ballpark. Well we didn't follow the recipe and forgot to toast the grains. So now it's in the fermenter but it has a very weird color to it. Almost like caramel.

Does this sound like a lost cause? Is there something we can do at this point to save it or should we just chalk it up to poor reading comprehension?

Don't toss it (he says emphatically after a few homebrews). For the love of god, man, let it ferment and see what happens! If not toasting your grains is the problem then you might lack the nice toasted/nutty flavor and a few ˚L of color, but you the beer most certainly is not a "lost cause."

Just because it isn't exactly what you planned, that doesn't make it a waste. Some of the best things invented were on accident. I hope you took good notes because this mistake might be the best brew you have ever tried. Ya just never know.
