actual Stirplate speed

Anyone got an idea what the optimum speed for stirplate would actually be?
I just burned up my dc muffin fan. I'm thinking of getting an ac motor with speed control or geared ac motor.

a lab stirplate is usually used up to say 400 rpm, but I expect doing a starter it would be about half that.

Did you see a list for parts, in this thread? IIRC its a 25 ohm rheostat to adjust the speed.

As long as it is moving the starter should be OK, I would have thought.

I was tweaking it for my new 1.5" stirbar. The dc fan is actually fine. So is my homemade power supply but I let the smoke out of the AC adapter.

Yea I agree that OP shouldn't need to put it in fifth gear or anything, as long as the yeast are in suspension:fro:
