Does anyone have any good chocolate stout recipes? I would appreciate any posted. This is my first stout, and I figure a chocolate stout is the way to go. Any advice would be good too. thanks

Personally, I would recommend just a basic dry stout as a first stout and nothing fancy. However, if you want a chocolate stout you can always add 3-4oz of dark chocolate to the boil. Other people achieve chocolate stouts by using cocoa powder or even "dryhopping" with cocoa nibs, but I have tried those methods.

This is not a chocolate stout, but it turned out very nice.

10.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) 80.0 %
1.00 lb Barley, Flaked (1.7 SRM) 8.0 %
1.00 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) 8.0 %
0.25 lb Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM) 2.0 %
0.25 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) 2.0 %

1.00 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [14.00%] (60 min) 44.5 IBU
1.50 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.00%] (30 min) 18.3 IBU
1.00 oz Cascade [5.50%] (15 min) 8.7 IBU

1.00 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 15.0 min)

1 Pkgs London Ale (White Labs #WLP013) Starter made.

I put 1.5 ounce of oak chips in the secondary for the last week. I soaked the oak chips in Knob Creek for 4 days before I put them in the secondary.

Brewed this on Oct. 23. I racked it to the secondary on Halloween day. It spent 6 weeks in secondary, then I kegged it. Tapped into it last night.

I really tastes great. I had a couple friends and family members over, and there is very little left of the brew now. :cross: Kind of sad to see it go so fast, but I like the fact it turned out so well.
I will definitely brew this again.

I went with the Austin homebrew chocolate stout and it came out fantastic. I did steep the grains though (what they list as a mini mash).
