Second batch of this recipe, tastes completely different. Spicy, like a mild wit or saison...I used the same exact ingredients from my bulk stores. Us05. I don't get it. Its quite drinkable, but I am disturbed by this apparent inconsistency.thoughts?? 2 row , carfapils, flaked maize.

I don't think its clovish, but maybe , or maybe mint, its hard to describe. Is clove a telltale? Wild yeast maybe?

Probably not wild yeast, but instead a sign of stressed yeast, perhaps from underpitching (not likely with a fresh package of S05) or high fermentation temperatures. It could be from pitching when the wort was too warm, also.

Do you have any ideas where it could be coming from?

a few others are reporting clove like tastes from us-05 recently

wonder if there are some QC issues

I suppose high ferm temp is possible, but I don't recall the temps getting above 70-I use an immersion chiller, pitching @ 65 to 70, also a possible but unlikely I think. Also , I wouldn't say its an aftertaste, its there in the aroma and upfront on the buds. I've never had an off flavor like this , just hope its not infected. No bottle rings or deposits, no pond scum...stumped!
