I've just invested in a 6.6 pound can of John Bull Stout.....The instructions that are included seem almost too simple.

They do not recommend any boiling of the wort, only pouring boiling water into the fermenter into which the syrup has already been poured.

If I follow these instructions, am I setting myself up for disaster, or is it safe to assume that they do, in fact, know what the heck they're talking about?

If it's a 'John Bull Master Class' Stout it's a pre-hopped kit with malt extract included -just follow the instructions - boiling it again will lose flavourings. Go a little easier on the water if you prefer a slightly stronger brew but don't go mad on ignoring the instructions. They assume you know what you're doing!!!;) :D
