Has anyone been to a good pub around the Ames or DesMoines Iowa area?:mug:
I like DG's Taphouse in downtown Ames. They have a fantastic selection of microbrews in bottles and on draft.

Also in downtown Ames is Olde Main Brewing Company. Their regular brews include a light lager, pale ale, amber ale, witbier, scottish ale, and a stout. They also usually have one or two seasonal brews.

nice to know, i just started taking grad classes at iowa state, some day i may actually go visit there just to see what its like!

There are plenty in Des Moines

Brew-Pubs:
  • Court Ave Brewery
  • Raccoon River Brewing
  • Granite City Brewery
  • Rock Bottom Brewery
Non-BMC Style Pubs
  • Hessen Haus
  • Red Monk
  • Royal Mile
  • El Bait Shop (120 beers on tap)
    • Thursdays Jimmy Carter Happy Hour (Free Homebrew)

All the establishments Schlenkerla mentioned are fine. My personal favorite is Raccoon River Brewing Co (mmm.. Bandit). Mike has some pretty tasty beers at Court Ave too.

Correction: Jimmy Carter Happy Hour is on Thursday nights at 6PM. Homebrew samples proudly provided by members of the Iowa Brewers Union a.k.a IBU homebrew club (sorry for the shameless plug).

If you are in Ames, definitely check out Olde Main. They have a really good root beer there called Red Monkey.

I'm off work all next week and was already thinking of hitting the DSM area for some pub action. Any more onfo on El Bait Shop? Web site or address? I might be able to do a Thursday night visit.
